| June 13, 2005 We drove to Breckenridge and stored the Barcroft Recumbent in our RV Lot storage shed at Tiger Run and had intended to ride but we arrived in a snow storm on the 12th and it was just too cold on the 13th to ride. So, instead we drove up to Kremmling to check out the road, etc and took some photos you can see by clicking here. Day 34: Saturday, July 30, Riverside, Wyoming to Walden, Colorado We rode 48.8 miles with 2299 foot of climb with some of the strongest headwinds we have experienced. Since our computer chose to crash just after I had downloaded the photos for the day, there may or may not be any photos posted. We hope the "Nerds" will be able to recover the data from the hard drive but will not know until Jim and Joanna bring the computer back with them from Dillon at the end of August. Day 35: Sunday, July 31, Walden to Kremmling Jim and Joanna Gregg came up to Walden and hauled us back to Dillon to spend three wonderful days with them in their condo. We figure we can ride the parts of the route we skipped anytime when we are staying at Tiger Run, and Dennis needed to recover from a lousy cold he had been suffering for several days. The R&R were truly wonderful!!! Day 36: Monday, August 1, Kremmling to Dillon Someday! Day 37: Tuesday, August 2, We had a good ride with Jim and Joanna from their condo to Keystone for lunch. A short 9.8 miles, checking out the Barcroft Recumbent to make sure everything was ready for our cruise across the plains of Eastern Colorado and Kansas. Day 38: Wednesday, August 3, The top of Hoosier Pass to Fairplay - another short day of only 11.7 miles and 79 ft of climb. It was a great downhill run on a cold and almost wet day so we were happy it was a short one. We had opted to send most of our cool weather clothing home - 2 days too soon!!! Day 39: Thursday, August 4, Fairplay to Canon City turned out to be one of our worst days of the whole trip so far! Cold rain and headwinds! We stopped at Hartsel for a good hot cup of coffee and the owner felt sorry for us and tried to find someone to give us a haul into Canon City! No luck though so we bought a poncho for me and some bags to make legg covers for Dennis and rode onward. Several miles down the road a truck with a flatbed trailer stopped and offered to haul us to Guffey, which turned out to be 23 very tough miles and we were soooooo grateful. It was still raining and blowing when we got on to finish the ride and what should have been a really fun mostly downhill ride was not fun at all! But, we made it and enjoyed taking a taxi to a wonderful restaurant for a very good dinner in Canon City! That good meal at the end of the day really does wonders to change bad feelings to good! Day 40: Friday, August 5, Canon City to Pueblo via Highway 50! A really great way to go and made it a short day of 43.1 miles with only 877 feet of climb. Wonderful weather too. We stayed at the Marriott in Pueblo and enjoyed that very much - right downtown and they fed us all the prime rib we could eat for dinner! Cannot ask for much better than that! Day 41: Saturday, August 6, Pueblo to La Junta - Still on Highway 50 and happy about that! we rode 63.4 miles with 576 ft of climb, following the Arkansas River instead of veering North as the Adventure Cycling Route does. Day 42: Sunday, August 7, La Junta to Lamar - Still on Highway 50 - with good shoulders and nice little towns along the way and lots of traffic to keep us company - which we do like! Tomorrow we enter Kansas. This route also follows the BNSF Railroad and so Dennis knows the area well and has lots of stories to tell as we ride along. We rode 56.8 miles with only 559 ft of climb.
