Back to Wyoming

Day 31: Wednesday, July 27, 2005 We rode from Lander to Muddy Gap, 42.3 miles with 997 feet of climbing. Mary dropped us off at Sweetwater Station about 8:30 and headed back to Lander. We reassembled the bike and started our day of riding in a great frame of mind!

As you can see this was a cloudless day so there is a lot of blue sky in all the pictures-so different from the past few days

This is today's scenery

We were looking forward to arriving at Jeffrey City- our first view of it

This had been a spot we wanted to stay in order to break up the 125 mile ride from Lander to Rawlins

I had called the Motel there and the lady said she just did not think they could open this year. She was 85 and her husband was 87 and they just could not make the beds anymore and did not know if they could get help. We did not see any activity around anything that looked like a motel!

Right there in Jeffrey City suburb we had our first wildlife sighting of the day

Three mule deer

  OOPS!

Our friend Jay Guerin sent this note:

Those mule deer pictured in the Jeffery City photo are
actually antelope....or more properly...prong horns.  Cherie has
counted more than 100 on our rides west of Cheyenne.  There's more of
them than people around here.

Thanks Jay!

Mary Hanson had told us about all the boarded up buildings we would see

but there was the café and it was open and they served a fine lunch

and sweet potato pie

and good fresh coffee

our only cloud spotting of the day

our first view of Split Rock

This couple from Michigan were stopped at Split Rock Monument and so we visited. They are celebrating their 25 th wedding anniversary with this motor cycle trip.

we arrived – the end of our day

enjoying a cool treat

We had our own private dining room for dinner

A young couple run this catering truck and serve good sandwiches and trail stew!

They also served the watermelon we enjoyed upon our arrival earlier.

Our lodging for the night was at the far end of that mobile home and proved to be very comfortable. The owners plan to build several log cabins and really turn the place into a resort!

Really nice people and a good stop for us!

and the young owner makes fresh Gelato every day

I had Muddy Gap Mud and Dennis had Lemon

A real treat!

And we had wi-fi too! That was a nice surprise
