Day 3: June 29, 2005 We seem to still be living on Tulsa time so we were once again awake before 5:30 and off to a good breakfast at the Original Pancake House and then back to the room to give the day time to warm up a bit. We finally shut the computer down and got on the road about 8:15 and shed our jackets in just a few miles. It was a wonderful sunny day and we really enjoyed the beautiful ride along the McKenzie River all the way up to McKenzie Bridge.
We are staying at the historic Log Cabin Inn tonight and find it to be a real treat. So rustic and quiet. Our back porch overlooks a park leading down to the fast moving McKenzie River and we watched several rafting groups pass.
We will sleep soundly tonight with the sound of the rushing river so near!
We met and visited with our first fellow TransAmerica biker today—Jedd from Seattle. He has been on the route for 5 weeks and will finish up in Florence tomorrow. He had lots of good information for us. He was one lean and sun tanned fellow! We look forward to meeting many more bikers in the weeks to come.
There were several areas of road work and these worked to our advantage as they held up groups of vehicles and we would have long periods of no traffic and then small bursts. All good natured drivers and good roads.
The Log Cabin Inn is also a restaurant and a very good one! So far our food has been outstanding! We are eating far more than we are riding off too but hopefully that will change as we begin some tougher climbing. Starting tomorrow from here to Sisters the climb over McKenzie Pass should burn a few calories!
