Day 12: Friday, July 8, 2005 –

Just as we were leaving Sumpter, Steve who is from Portland rode by and stopped to talk. He started in Lincoln City and rode down to Florence and then has been on the same route as we are traveling. He is camping so we may or may not see him again.

The views from Hwy 7 from Sumpter to Baker City included the Powder River which we followed all the way into Baker City.

There was one long straight stretch of highway—the first straight flat stretch we have experienced. We met two single travelers heading West and since the highway was pretty busy no one made any attempt to stop and talk.

This was the patio area by the dining room of the Best Western.  This photo is of the Bob Thomas family who were celebrating his birthday with a family gathering at the restaurant.  We visited with him and the rest of the family during lunch and I then looked up the Thomas Angus Ranch on the web and found this photo.  Really nice people and such a fun visit.

This was a very short mileage day for us and we arrived at our Best Western Motel too early to check in—but they are a resort and have patio dining out by the pool so we are getting our computer work caught up and enjoyed a very good lunch. RETURN TO OREGON HOMEPAGE
