2006 San Diego Visit Recap

Three Weeks is never enough time to spend in San Diego, but it was the best 3-week visit we could have hoped for.   The weather was as perfect as June in San Diego could possibly be with a cool marine layer almost every morning turning to sunshine by noon and a few clouds some days just to make the photos more beautiful.  Perfect for riding - and we did do a lot of that - 717 miles in 3 weeks!

Steve and Al Tarkington were ready to ride the day after we arrived so we got off to a flying start.  We rode all of our favorite coast rides and managed to eat at all of our favorite breakfast cafes and found some new ones.  It had actually been 3 years since we had spent time riding in San Diego and things have changed a lot.  Many of the routes we ride had been re-surfaced with wider bike lanes.  It is bike friendly ocuntry!

We rode with all of our friends and even made some new ones!  We had brought our Lite Speed out to Kirk Newell to have him sell it for us and when we went to the San Diego Tndem Club ride last Sunday - there it was with it's new owners Sam and Sherry Powell!  What fun to see it get such a happy home!  They are strong riders and no one could keep up with them!

We had stayed at Mission Bay the first 2 weeks and then moved up to Paradise By The Sea RV Resort in Ocenaside for a week - where we met Jim and Marti Newton - avid bike riders from Austin Texas - so we enjoyed riding with them every day and hope to cross paths with them again as the years go by.  In all the years we traveled around the country full time in the RV - we never before met another couple who loved biking as we do!  (That is someone we did not already  know)

Besides biking, we enjoyed two performances which were part of the annual San Diego "Mostly Mozart" celebration and an organ concert at Balboa Park.

Today, Friday, June 23rd we got an early start for our drive to St. George, Utah where we will stay tonight.  Tomorrow night in Fruita, Colorado, near Grand Junction and we will be at Tiger Run in Breckenridge early on Sunday.
